Before their marriage became a courtroom dispute, Genevieve Gallen spoke about Verne Troyer with affection. The model and yoga instructor accompanied him to public events, discussed wedding plans and described a man whose personality meant far more to her than the attention surrounding his fame.

Their relationship was already making headlines in 2003. By the following year, the coverage had changed: instead of an engagement, reports focused on an annulment application and a disagreement over the marriage itself.

Gallen would later challenge claims about why she had married Troyer. And long after their separation, she returned to memories of the holidays and family gatherings they had shared.

They Were Appearing Together Before Marriage Became the Story

Gallen and Troyer were photographed together at the To Protect and to Serve event in California in November 2002. Another appearance followed on January 30, 2003, when they attended Hewlett-Packard’s Tomorrow Is Now preview in West Hollywood.

Troyer was known to movie audiences as Mini-Me from the Austin Powers films. Gallen, meanwhile, was described in contemporary reporting as a model from Detroit and a yoga instructor.

Much of the early coverage focused on their difference in height. When Gallen spoke about the relationship, however, she talked about his warmth and how she felt around him.

She praised his “larger heart and a larger personality,” pushing back against the idea that their appearance explained their relationship.

Wedding Plans Were Followed by Reports of a Split

An August 2003 announcement said the couple planned to marry in November. But later that month, another report described a breakup.

Even then, Gallen did not speak as though she had stopped imagining a future with Troyer. She said she still hoped to marry him and recalled his telling her he could not imagine loving another woman after her.

Their relationship therefore had a public history of both wedding plans and difficulties before the ceremony reported the following January.

Their January Wedding Led to an Annulment Filing

Biographical records place Gallen and Troyer’s wedding on January 22, 2004. A later account of the dispute described a marriage licence bearing that date and a ceremony conducted by a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge.

Gallen’s lawyer said they had exchanged rings and intended to hold another ceremony for relatives and friends. That second celebration did not take place.

On February 23, Troyer filed papers seeking an annulment. By June, his lawyer, Fred Silberberg, was publicly challenging the marriage’s validity, with a further hearing scheduled for June 17.

“There’s no valid marriage,” Silberberg told reporters while explaining Troyer’s position. Gallen’s account was different: she maintained that they had married.

The marriage was subsequently described as annulled in 2004. However, the February filing and June proceedings complicate the frequently repeated description of a marriage that was legally over within a single day.

A Proposed Reality Show Became Part of the Disagreement

The argument did not remain confined to court reporting.

In March 2005, Gallen and producer Mark Cronin discussed their conflicting accounts on The Howard Stern Show. At issue was a proposed reality programme centred on Troyer.

Cronin claimed Gallen had feared being left out of the project and had pushed for the wedding. He also alleged that she wanted payment and production responsibilities.

Gallen denied making those demands. She said Cronin had suggested an annulment in the interests of Troyer’s career, and that her own concerns about the programme involved Troyer’s wellbeing.

Her father joined the discussion and defended her, saying the family loved Troyer. The programme recorded opposing versions of events, rather than establishing either account as fact.

Gallen Later Remembered Their Family Holidays

Years after the legal dispute, Gallen shared more personal recollections.

Following Troyer’s death in 2018, she posted a tribute remembering their connection. In another post, shared in December 2019, she recalled Christmas visits to Michigan and an engagement celebration with loved ones.

Those memories offered a different view of the relationship from the public arguments that had followed the wedding. She remembered time spent with his family, not simply the proceedings that ended their marriage.

There is little reliable recent reporting about Gallen’s private life. Her later posts do not answer every question about the breakup, but they show that her recollections of Troyer extended well beyond the dispute that brought their relationship back into the headlines.
